Opening the San Juan Venado Estuary in Las Peñitas Nicaragua

The SJV Estuary in Las Penitas, Leon, Nicaragua silted up as it does every few decades. The village rallied together and raised funds and food and volunteers and the government brought in two bulldozers and a front loader and has spent a week digging a new channel to bring life back to the river and to open the region to fishing again. Today the village turned out at low tide to watch the crew open the new channel to the Pacific Ocean. Major community event.
