Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges from East River Waterfront
The nearer bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge and just behind it is the Manhattan Bridge. These two bridges are the most important links between New York City's two largest boroughs Brooklyn and Manhattan. The two boroughs are also connected by tunnels under the river. Ferries are a popular means of "above ground" transportation as well throughout the entire New York City area. Brooklyn and Manhattan are separated by the East River. Manhattan is on its own island while Brooklyn is located on the southwest corner of Long Island. This picture was taken from Manhattan. Brooklyn is visible on the right.
