Allegheny National Forest - Kinzua Dam

In 1965 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania built Kinzua Dam which blocked the flow of the Allegheny River and created the Allegheny Reservoir on top of Indian Lands which the state had failed to previously tax. The Indians who lived there were relocated to New York. The land was granted "forever" by the US Federal Government. It was not a reservation but a grant for service to his country by Seneca Chief Cornplanter. Cornplanter's original gravesite was flooded and his grave had to be moved to higher ground.
